Judicial Selection Reform was one of Gavel Grab’s standing categories during the years the site ran as a project of the Justice at Stake Campaign, from December 2007 to 2017. Posts filed under it tracked the fights over how states choose their judges: proposals to replace contested judicial elections with merit selection and retention votes, campaigns to move partisan judicial elections onto nonpartisan ballots, the design of judicial nominating commissions, public financing for judicial campaigns, and the ballot measures and legislation that advanced or blocked those changes state by state.

The category ran to more than thirty pages of posts, and the American Constitution Society cited it in an appendix to one of its reports on state courts.

The original posts are preserved in the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine at web.archive.org/web/2017/http://www.gavelgrab.org/?cat=31 and in the Library of Congress web archives.

Gavel Grab revived the masthead in 2026 under new and independent ownership, not affiliated with Justice at Stake, and continues to report on courts, judges, prosecutors, and the law as written. Gavel Grab is published by Christopher Armitage, founder of The Existentialist Republic.
